Wild Rice Farmhouse Ale
August Schell Brewing Co.
Saison
7% ABV
Appearance: 2.5 | Aroma: 4 | Taste: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Drinkability: 4
Served in a pint glass filled to the brim: pub style. However, vigorous swirling was unable to force any head, let alone Belgian magnificence out of this beer. The beer itself is very clear, and seems reddish golden colored in the pub light.
Aroma is big on fruit with hints of apples, pears, and apricots complimented by the tartness and a touch of pepper. Not heavy on phenols and quite inviting. Taste is similar to aroma: begins tart and fruity on the palate with prickly carbonation and ends in a lightly bitter, dry finish with light phenolic aftertaste. The beer is well carbonated but not as much as it should be, or maybe it just wasn't cold enough. The body is medium and full of flavor, and yet this ale is very refreshing.
I should drink this again at the right temperature and in the right glassware because I believe this beer deserves a better score. Recommended!
